About Me
Dr. Agnes Yinshan Man
Psalms Counseling & Consultation Founder
I am a Chinese-American bilingual and bicultural Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), providing psychotherapy for two decades in the United States. My first degree was a Bachelor of Social Work in Hong Kong, China. After graduating with a Master of Social Work in Massachusetts, I began practicing in 2002 in various family or mental health services organizations before founding my private practice in Fall 2013. I also earned a doctoral degree in community care and counseling, concentrated in pastoral care and counseling at Liberty University, Virginia, U.S.A.
BCPCC
I am a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor (BCPCC) by the International Board of Christian Care (IBCC-BCPPC), which recognizes the competence, ethical practice, and distinctively Christian approach in my work and ministry with others. The BCPPC is affiliated with the world’s largest and most diverse faith-based mental health organization, the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). In addition to my professional training with a bio-psycho-social perspective on human problems in the secular world, a biblical and spiritual standpoint and competence enhanced by training in pastoral care and counseling in the Christian university enrich my holistic assessment and treatment of individuals overwhelmed with problems, pain, and suffering.
MBTI Certified
I am also certified by Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). While in the MBTI training, I discovered my ESFJ and ISFJ personality types. People with an ESFJ personality type tend to be outgoing, loyal, organized, and tender-hearted. They gain energy from interacting with other people. Individuals with an ISFJ are true altruists who meet kindness with kindness-in-excess and engage with the work and people they believe in with enthusiasm and generosity. MBTI identifies 16 personality types, but I believe the complexity of each human could be more than one type of personality. ESFJ is a type of “Provider,” and ISFJ is a type of “Protector,” two personality types genuinely describe me. :)
Experience
I experience working with individuals and families to help them understand themselves, enhance life functioning, and improve their relational connections. I am passionate about working with children and adolescents with developmental issues, emotional disturbance, relational conflicts, and their families. My primary approach is integrating theories and therapies involving attachment-based, emotionally focused, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, interpersonal neurological, and spiritual perspectives for individual needs.
Over the past decade, I have also provided consultation and conducted workshops on mental health, spiritual-emotional health, personal growth, child and adolescent development, stress management, and parenting strategies and skills in schools, community organizations, and churches in the United States and China.
